This month, as part of our 90th anniversary celebration, we are spotlighting the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum in Daytona Beach, Florida. Completed a decade ago, this piece of architecture is more than just a museum—it is a journey through Florida’s rich history, captured in over 2,600 paintings that date back to the early 1800s. This world-class collection, generously donated by Cici and Hyatt Brown, is the most extensive of its kind, offering visitors an unparalleled look at the state’s past through the eyes of its artists.

Inspired by the traditional Cracker-style architecture of old Florida, the museum’s design reflects both its natural surroundings and the historic character of the artwork it houses. Drawing from elements of tobacco barns and heritage structures, the architecture balances modern museum technology with a warm, intimate ambiance. Carefully filtered light, deep hues, and thoughtful spatial organization create an immersive experience, echoing the atmosphere of classic European art institutions while maintaining a distinct sense of place.

This short documentary, narrated by Steve Langston, Vice President of Design, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the inspiration, vision, and architectural journey that shaped the museum. Through insightful commentary, we explore how the building itself becomes part of the storytelling—creating a space where history, art, and architecture seamlessly converge.

Watch the film to discover the story behind one of Florida’s most treasured cultural landmarks.
