RLF partnered with Limbitless Solutions on its journey for a new facility that will help support its mission, research, and path to FDA approval of bionic arms for children, and ultimately for adults.
Limbitless Solutions is a small organization with a big story. Initially inspired by a radio program about the creation of the first 3D-printed mechanical hand, then UCF student Albert Manero saw an opportunity to get involved. He pitched the idea to fellow students, and together they created a 3D-printed bionic arm for children. In 2014, Manero formalized Limbitless Solutions, a direct support organization of UCF.
The Limbitless Solutions approach focuses on empowerment. Understanding that children with limb differences often face criticism from other children, the Limbitless team develops themed, artistic, and colorful arms that any child might be thrilled to sport, as well as video games that teach children how to use muscle movement in preparation for receiving their arms. Limbitless Solutions also empowers families by offering affordable solutions so that the arm can grow with the child.

RLF’s pro-bono renovation consisted of enhancing the existing office space by adding the components necessary for expanding services and enabling creativity and imaginative approaches to technology and the development of products. The new 4,256-square-foot facility includes a reception area, a large collaboration area, conference space, and a manufacturing space containing four large 3D printers, automotive paint booths, and industrial fume hoods. Our mechanical, electrical, and construction administration teams coordinated extensively to ensure that the spaces integrated properly within the existing building and were designed to function safely for the Limbitless manufacturing process.
Rounding out the renovation, the RLF interiors team created a soothing yet motivational environment, incorporating Limbitless Solutions’ branded color palate and enlivening the space with creative infographics, inspirational quotations, and wayfinding systems.
