RLF’s thorough analysis proved essential in the design of an ambulatory care center and dental clinic in the Pacific Northwest.
Description
Under two different contracts, the RLF team executed an AE-0 hospital planning study and full planning and design services for a new ambulatory care clinic and dental clinic. As part of the AE-0 efforts, RLF completed a Facility Utilization Study (FUS) and Economic Analysis, confirming that a new site was the most fiscally and operationally prudent option. This concept was developed by the RLF team and presented in a project book. The design team listened closely to client needs, helping all parties understand the required functionality, opportunities and constraints. RLF’s team carefully crafted a solution that met the needs of both the installation and all project stakeholders. In light of differing opinions on major decisions, RLF provided numerous options that vetted each stakeholder’s opinions, including conceptual site location options and siting placements for each. RLF’s thorough analysis and conceptual plans helped the client and design team to consider all options and make an informed, unified decision.
As part of the design effort, RLF, in partnership with JV partner SSA, delivered a serene design for the greenfield site. The two-story clinic on the Naval Air Station base is surrounded by beautiful, natural landscaping, pine forests, and mountains. The surrounding beauty is reflected in the design vernacular with an angular roof that mimics the mountains and a calming interior aesthetic that invites natural light with the use of glass, an earth-tone color palette and a grand entrance staircase that evokes the sense of movement. The outpatient, multi-clinic facility offers preventive/occupational health, aviation medicine, deployment health, behavioral health, radiology, laboratory, pharmacy, and dental — a wide range of medical support that enables the combat readiness of the Whidbey Island service members.
All planning maintained a focus on sustainability, meeting UFC 1-200-02, High Performance and Sustainable Building Requirements, as a minimum requirement. Third-party sustainability planning was not part of this study.
