A cherished parish receives a new house of worship to accommodate its growing family.
Description
To accommodate its tremendous growth, All Souls Catholic Parish enlisted RLF to design a new 23,000 SF church on a prominent 63-acre site in Sanford, Florida. Working with church officials and members of the Diocese Building Committee, RLF developed both short- and long-term planning goals for the overall site while addressing accessibility, circulation, security, parking and green spaces. RLF presented multiple concepts to ensure proper placement of the 1,400-seat Spanish Mission-style church. RLF also created programming, conceptual design concepts and presentation views to assist the Diocese in fundraising efforts for future phases.
Chandeliers and decorative mounted luminaries create a theatrical setting throughout the sanctuary. While the sanctuary is traditional in aesthetics and architectural detail, the use of modern structural steel provided flexibility and strength to create expansive open framing, allowing the perception of vastness common in traditional cathedrals. Technology was integrated into the traditional design so that modern state-of-the-art systems could be integrated without adversely affecting the traditional aesthetic. Future development of the 63-acre tract includes a parish church, elementary school and regional Catholic high school.
